HS Boys’ Basketball: Milestone nights for Nativity’s Keating, Blue Mountain’s Meade

tempimageduyobj

Trey Keating, Nativity boys' basketball

POTTSVILLE — Trey Keating didn’t just rewrite the record book Thursday evening — he tore a few pages out and kept scoring.

The Nativity senior poured in a career-high 45 points and added 15 rebounds to become the all-time leading scorer in Nativity boys’ basketball history as the Hilltoppers rolled past Williams Valley 75-58 in a milestone-filled Schuylkill League Division II boys’ basketball game at Nativity.

Keating entered the night chasing history and left it behind. His 45-point outburst pushed his career total to 1,798 points, eclipsing the long-standing marks set by Jeff Yordy (1,730, Class of 2015) and Kevin Cuff (1,795, Class of 2004).

Williams Valley couldn’t keep pace early as Keating’s shot-making quickly bent the game in Nativity’s favor. The Hilltoppers jumped ahead 16-8 by the end of the first quarter as Keating knocked down a pair of early 3-pointers and added a runner.

Keating totaled eight 3’s, shot 9-for-10 from the free throw line and controlled the boards on both ends, posting an authoritative double-double that dictated the tempo throughout the night.

Nativity built separation quarter by quarter, using balanced support around Keating. Jake Bowman added 14 points, while Layne Pasker chipped in 10, forcing the Vikings to pick their poison defensively.

Williams Valley was led by Evan Achenbach’s 17 points, with Gabe Rodriguez scoring 14 and Dickerson adding 13.
