HS Boys’ BB Roundup: Nativity edges Haven; Minersville, Tri-Valley roll in league action

POTTSVILLE — Trey Keating and Max Heim fired big blows in the second half for their respective squads.

Keating scored a game-high 26 points and Nativity withstood a furious fourth-quarter push to edge the Hurricanes 58-53 in a back-and-forth Schuylkill League Division II showdown Tuesday atop Lawton’s Hill.

The Hilltoppers built small but steady leads in each of the first three quarters, carrying a 39-31 advantage into halftime and a 52-41 cushion entering the fourth.

Schuylkill Haven responded with its best surge of the night behind Heim, who poured in a team-high 21 points and knocked down three 3-pointers to pull the Hurricanes within striking distance.

Haven trimmed the deficit late, but Nativity answered with timely stops and free throws to close it out. Layne Pasker added 10 points, eight of which came in the final frame, for the Hilltoppers, while Nick Clarke chipped in 12.

Alan Evans netted Schuylkill Haven with 16 points.

MAHANOY CITY — Dane Hannevig scored a game-high 21 points as Pine Grove outlasted Mahanoy Area in a Division I matchup.

Tanner Kolb added 16 points and Terrin Felty chipped in 10 for the Cardinals, who used balanced scoring across all four quarters to fend off a late Mahanoy Area push.

Cam Smith led the Golden Bears with 20 points, while Connor Bowman added 15.

North Schuylkill 60, Panther Valley 38

FOUNTAIN SPRINGS — North Schuylkill used balanced scoring and a strong defensive effort to pull away from Panther Valley for a sizable Division I victory.

Xavier McNally and Cam Kacilowicz scored 14 points apiece for the Spartans, who built separation by holding Panther Valley to five points in the fourth quarter Dylan Cairo chipped in nine points.

Danny Wehr led the Panthers with 12 points, while Darian Revell added 10.

HEGINS — Braeden Doyle scored a game-high 26 points as Tri-Valley rolled past Williams Valley in a Division II matchup.

The Dawgs took control with a dominant middle stretch, outscoring the Vikings 50-25 across the second and third quarters. Trey Porter and Kingsley Johnson added 13 points apiece for Tri-Valley.

Evan Kandybowski scored 10 points to lead Williams Valley.

MINERSVILLE — Shazier Bethea erupted for a game-high 30 points as Minersville pulled away from Tamaqua in Division I action.

Bethea knocked down four 3-pointers and went 6-for-6 at the line, while Chase Zimerofsky added 12 points and Jordan Bowers chipped in eight as the Battlin’ Miners steadily built separation after a tight first quarter.

Jakin Tamagini paced Tamaqua with 12 points.
