POTTSVILLE — A thrilling victory in the 200-yard medley relay set the tone.
Liam Magdeburg and Porter Sarnes made sure it stood up.
Blue Mountain took a major step toward its eighth straight Schuylkill League boys’ swimming title Tuesday with a 105-71 victory over Pottsville at the Ned Hampford Natatorium.
The Eagles (11-1, 9-0 SL) prevailed in the meet’s first event, the 200 medley relay, when the quartet of Brody Moyer, Zach Scala, Sarnes and Aidan Varney finished in 1:47.29, just nipping the Pottsville foursome of Ashton Maroukis, Jamison Walsh, John Mohl and Noah Bevan that was clocked in 1:47.85.
Magdeburg then won the 200 freestyle and later added a victory in the 500 freestyle. Sarnes touched first in the 200 IM and 100 fly, while Moyer won the 100 backstroke and Scala took first in the 100 breaststroke.
Pottsville (9-3, 7-2) kept things close early as Bevan took first in the 50 freestyle and Adam Klinger, Colin Kline and Brayden Tokonitz went 1-2-3 in diving. Klinger’s score of 298.70 was a new Pottsville school and pool record in the 6-dive competition. Bevan later added an individual win in the 100 free.
The Tide trailed 41-33 after diving and 57-46 after the 100 freestyle, but Blue Mountain built some breathing room when Magdeburg, Lukas Frantz and Luciano Keck went 1-2-4 in the 500 freestyle to make it 69-49 with four events left. The Eagles followed with 11-point wins in both the 100 back and 100 breast to ice it.
Blue Mountain can clinch its 12th overall league crown with a victory in one of its final three dual meets, against either Schuylkill Haven, Tamaqua or Mahanoy Area.
