Thursday’s local sports roundup: Nativity creates five-way tie in Division II volleyball

Schuylkill League Girls’ Volleyball
Nativity 3, Schuylkill Haven 0 — Julianna Carlson notched 17 kills, four digs and two blocks as Nativity handed Schuylkill Haven its first defeat of the season with a 25-14, 25-16, 25-22 victory in a Schuylkill League Division II match atop Lawton’s Hill.
Nativity’s victory left five teams — Marian, Minersville, Nativity, Schuylkill Haven and Tri-Valley — tied atop the Division II standings with 3-1 league records.
Sara Spolski collected 10 digs and six kills for Nativity (3-2, 3-1 D-II), while Addison Ricard had 28 assists and six digs. Karlee Feger had eight kills and seven digs, Jolynn Ross compiled 15 assists and five digs, and Teagan Wehr had two aces and 13 digs for the Hurricanes (3-1, 3-1).
Nativity won JV 2-0.
Tri-Valley 3, Weatherly 0 — At Hegins, Faith Melocheck collected 11 kills as the Dawgs swept the Wreckers 25-5, 25-13, 25-5 in a Division II contest.
Aubrianna Zimmerman and Ellie Dunkelberger each had five aces for Tri-Valley (3-1, 3-1 D-II). Kelly Reiner had two kills and three digs, Abby Teodorescu had three digs and Abby Weston tallied two blocks and six digs for the Wreckers (0-4, 0-4).
Pottsville 3, Mahanoy Area 0 — At Mahanoy City, Anna Burke had seven kills and five blocks as the Tide rolled past the Golden Bears 25-9, 25-20, 25-13 in a Division I match.
Maggie Brennan added five kills and five digs, while Lainey Dusel had six kills and seven digs for Pottsville (4-2, 3-0 D-I). Yehilna Reyes had 25 digs, Hailey Mroczka had three kills and 16 digs, and Carly Honus collected 11 digs for Mahanoy Area (3-2, 2-1).
Mahanoy Area won JV 2-1.
Pine Grove 3, Tamaqua 0 — At Pine Grove, Domani Collazo compiled 12 kills, five aces and four blocks as the Cardinals swept the Blue Raiders 25-10, 25-11, 25-14 in a Division I contest.
Tori Schaeffer added seven kills and five aces for Pine Grove (2-2, 2-2 D-I), while Lily Flynn had four kills. Alivia Woodring had six digs and Madison Schock tallied three aces and three assists for Tamaqua (0-5, 0-4).
Pine Grove won JV 2-0.
Minersville 3, Shenandoah Valley 0 — At Shenandoah, Ayla Castle had four aces and 16 assists as the Miners outlasted the Blue Devils 25-12, 25-11, 28-26 in a Division II contest.
Arianna John tallied four aces and seven kills for Minersville (3-2, 3-1 D-II), while Hailey Bowers added four aces and 10 digs. Morgan Labosky had five points and three kills, Aubrie Monaghan had five points, two kills and three assists, and Kaye Lynn Sheehan had four points, two kills and four assists for Shenandoah Valley (0-6, 0-4).
Shenandoah Valley won JV 2-0.
Schuylkill League Boys’ Soccer
Williams Valley 3, Nativity 1 — Cody Boehmer scored three goals as the Vikings downed the Hilltoppers in a Schuylkill League Division II contest.
Boehmer scored in the 14th, 20th and 60th minutes, with John Rautzahn and Ethan Lebo earning assists. Nativity’s lone tally came on a Williams Valley own goal.
Owen Mace stopped five shots in the net for the Vikings (2-2, 2-2 D-II), while Emmalee Pinkey had seven saves for Nativity (1-3, 1-2).
Schuylkill Haven 2, Tri-Valley 1, 2OT — G. Murphy’s goal in the 99th minute lifted the Hurricanes past the Dawgs in double overtime in a Schuylkill League Division II match at Bulldog Stadium.
Matt Angelo scored in the 45th minute for Schuylkill Haven (2-4, 1-2 D-II) before Nathan Hillard tied it at the 55-minute mark off an assist by Lukas Ruch for Tri-Valley (1-2-1, 1-2). Gavin Wade had nine saves for Haven, while Dawgs’ keeper Brayden Leese stopped four Haven shots.

Shenandoah Valley 2, North Schuylkill 0 — Sam Mentusky and Joan Menjivar scored three minutes apart early in the second half as the Blue Devils blanked the Spartans in a non-league match.
Ayden Zamudio assisted on Menjivar’s goal, while Caleb Campos pitched a shutout in net for the Blue Devils (6-1) with eight saves. Kaden Onuschak had 11 saves for the Spartans (2-2).
In other Schuylkill League boys’ soccer action Thursday, Lourdes and Pottsville battled to a scoreless tie, Pine Grove blanked Tamaqua 3-0 and Minersville topped Weatherly 8-2.
