Girls’ BB: Blue Mountain nips Pottsville; Cards, Fillies, Bears, Vikes roll

ORWIGSBURG — Cameryn Campbell and Makayla Keck each scored a team-high nine points as Blue Mountain held off a late Pottsville rally to capture a 38-37 victory over the Tide in a Schuylkill League Division I girls’ basketball game Friday night.

Keck and Ruby Henninger each hit a pair of 3-pointers in the first quarter as Blue Mountain built a 17-7 lead after one frame. The Eagles still led 32-24 entering the fourth quarter before Pottsville made a final charge.

Jo Barnhart scored eight of her game-high 14 points in a 13-6, game-closing run that nearly helped Pottsville pull off the upset.

Avery Miller paced Tri-Valley with 12 points.

** North Schuylkill opened its season with a victory, beating Panther Valley 61-34.

** Lourdes improved to 3-0 overall with a 46-19 rout of Shenandoah Valley in a Division II game. It is believed that the victory is the 800th in the head coaching career of Red Raiders’ mentor Mike Klembara Sr.
