PINE GROVE — Kale Lengle played the hero Tuesday night, delivering a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh to lift Pine Grove to a 2-1 victory over North Schuylkill in a tense Schuylkill League Division I battle Tuesday evening under the lights at Walter Stump Stadium.
With the score tied at 1-1, Quinn Brommer reached base via a walk, stole second and third, and came home on Lengle’s sharp single to left, sealing the comeback win for the Cardinals.
The game featured outstanding pitching from both teams that even two rain delays couldn’t slow down. Pine Grove’s Brommer was nearly untouchable on the hill, allowing just one hit and one run over seven innings while striking out 14 and walking only one.
North Schuylkill’s Stephen Minahan was equally impressive, surrendering just one run on three hits across six innings with nine strikeouts. Kolton Joyce entered in the seventh and took the loss in relief.
North Schuylkill opened the scoring early, as Joyce launched a solo home run in the top of the first to give the Spartans a 1-0 edge. That hit would be North Schuylkill’s only one of the game.
Pine Grove pulled even in the sixth when Carson Lengle drove in Quincy Allen with an RBI single. The Cardinals then executed on the bases in the seventh, capping the night with the clutch hit from Kale Lengle.
Pine Grove tallied four hits total, with Wyatt Snyder, Brayden Lyons and both Lengle’s each collecting one. Allen led the aggressive baserunning attack, swiping two bags as the Cardinals stole six bases overall.
The Spartans committed no errors defensively.
