HS Softball: Red-hot Tamaqua knocks off North Schuylkill

TAMAQUA — Tamaqua did it again.
For the third straight game, the Blue Raiders upended a Schuylkill League Division I playoff contender in a one-run thriller.
After sweeping Blue Mountain earlier in the week, Tamaqua scored a run in the seventh to defeat North Schuylkill 4-3 on Thursday in Division I action.
Tied 3-3, Naomi Knitter started the bottom of the seventh with a walk, advanced on Nico Conahan’s sacrifice bunt and scored on Kolbe Robb’s hard-hit ball that deflected off the third baseman’s glove and rolled into left field.
Tamaqua saved a run in the sixth inning when Leah Crowley made a fake throw on a bunt then threw home to cut down a runner at the plate.
Addison Krall went 2-for-3 for the Blue Raiders. Her solo home run in the sixth inning tied the game 3-3.
Peyton Faust went the first five innings for Tamaqua, allowing three unearned runs. Knitter pitched the final two innings to get the win.
Olivia Jones had two hits and a run scored for North Schuylkill.

ORWIGSBURG — Emmerson Frie went 2-for-3 with a double, a home run, three RBIs and two runs scored to lead Blue Mountain to a Division I win over Pottsville at Patton Field.

The homer was Frie’s seventh of the season.
Avery Hudock also had a big night, going 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored. Other top hitters for the Eagles included Carla Boyer, 2-for-3 with a double, one run and one RBI; Chloe Brown, 2-for-3 with an RBI; and Callie Peel, 2-for-2 with a double, three RBIs and a run scored.
Brown pitched a complete-game two-hitter, allowing no earned runs and striking out six.

MAHANOY CITY — Jamie Dinger pitched a four-inning no-hitter as Pine Grove defeated Mahanoy Area in a Division I game.

Dinger struck out seven and walked one.
Top hitters for the Cardinals included Addison Zimmerman, 2-for-4 with two RBIs; Tailyn Bohr, 2-for-2 with a run scored; Lily Flynn, 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI; and Meadow Umbenhauer, 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and one RBI.
With the win, Pine Grove clinched a Schuylkill League playoff berth.

Addison Moyer added a triple and two RBIs for the Miners. Grace Sterner went 1-for-1 with three runs scored and two RBIs.
Cali Laudeman tossed a two-hitter and struck out five for Minersville.
Brynn Burke went 2-for-2 with an RBI for the Blue Devils.

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN — Allie Scherer pitched a complete game and struck out 11 to lead Schuylkill Haven past Marian in a Division II game. The five runs Scherer allowed were unearned.

Teagan Wehr sparked the Hurricanes’ offense by going 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. Ally Becker added a single, a double and two RBIs. Grace Line went 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI, and Nickie Domermuth went 2-for-3.
For Marian, DeAnna Pugh went 2-for-4 with three runs scored; and Malina Letcher went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
With the win, Schuylkill Haven clinched a Schuylkill League playoff berth for the first time in program history.
