WHITEHALL — It was a parade to the top of the medals stand Tuesday for Schuylkill League boys on the opening day of the District 11 Track and Field Championships.
The Schuylkill League grabbed gold in five of the seven Class AA finals at Whitehall’s Zephyr Complex, while four local runners secured the top spot in preliminary running events.
Minersville led the parade as Kolin Long took first in the Class AA 3,200-meter run in 9:51.90, Dante Carr and Aidan Ryan placed 1-2 in the high jump and Paiten LaPoint posted the fastest time in the 100 prelims as the Miners exited Day 1 in first place in the Class AA team standings with 42 points. LaPoint was also second in the 200 prelims.

Nativity won a pair of golds as Noah Dolbin won the 300 hurdles in 39.07 and the 3,200 relay team of Nolan Daynorowicz, Nash Stehr, Michael Stank and Liam Messina won in 8:19.76, 32 seconds in front of second-place Allentown Central Catholic.
Dolbin also placed third in the long jump and posted the fastest time in the 110 hurdles preliminaries. His leap of 21-11 in the long jump bested the PIAA qualifying standard of 21-6, qualifying him for the state meet.
Schuylkill Haven’s Niko Carestia also had a memorable day, winning the Class AA javelin with a top throw of 159 feet, 1 inch while qualifying for the finals in both the 100 and 200.
In Class 3A, Blue Mountain’s Chase Guers and North Schuylkill’s Luke Miller set up showdowns for Thursday’s finals in both the 100 and 200 dashes. Guers edged Miller in the 100 prelims, while Miller was quicker than Guers in the 200 prelims.
Day 2 of the District 11 Track and Field Championships was originally slated for Wednesday at Whitehall but was moved to Thursday with the same time schedule.
The top two placewinners in each event automatically qualified for the PIAA Track and Field Championships set for Friday-Saturday, May 23-24, at Shippensburg University.
In addition to the five gold-medal winners, Minersville’s Ryan (AA high jump), Marian’s Jacob Tom (AA long jump) and North Schuylkill’s Aiden Zilker (3A shot put) punched their tickets to Shippensburg with silver-medal-winning performances.

Other local top four medal winners Tuesday included:
** Shenandoah Valley’s Robert Guzman, fourth in the boys’ AA 3,200
** Mahanoy Area’s Sonny Seritti, fourth in the boys’ AA 300 hurdles
** Minersville’s Aiden Boom, fourth in the AA javelin
