WHITEHALL — The Schuylkill League’s boys’ sprinters put on quite a show Thursday at the District 11 Track and Field Championships.
Blue Mountain’s Chase Guers, Minersville’s Paiten LaPoint, North Schuylkill’s Luke Miller, Nativity’s Michael Stank and the Green Wave’s Noah Dolbin all raced to gold medals during Day 2 of the district championships at Whitehall’s Zephyr Athletic Complex.
The Blue Mountain 400-meter relay and the Nativity 1600 relay also climbed to the top of the podium as the Schuylkill League finished with 12 gold medals in the two-day competition and advanced 21 athletes to the PIAA Track and Field Championships set for May 23-24 at Shippensburg University.
Guers, LaPoint and Miller have been lightning-quick all season and Thursday was no different.

LaPoint won the Class AA 100 meters in 10.89, then was second in the 200 in a photo finish with Notre Dame-Green Pond’s Alex Clark. Clark was clocked in 21.97, LaPoint in 21.98. Pine Grove’s Nate Frankenfield was fourth in the 100, while Nativity’s Bo McDonald was fourth in the 200.
Guers and Miller battled each other nip and tuck in both the Class 3A 100 and 200. Guers won the 100 in 10.81, while Miller was second in 10.86. In the 200, Miller took the gold in 21.77, with Pleasant Valley’s Jareal Moore second in 21.95. Guers was third in 21.98 but qualified for states by beating the qualifying time of 22.22.
The top two finishers in each event automatically qualified for states.

Stank raced to victory in the 400 in 49.74, with Mahanoy Area’s Jose Perez Figuereo punching his ticket to states by placing second in 50.16.
Nativity’s Nolan Daynorowicz (800) and Minersville’s Kolin Long (1600) each finished second in their respective events to qualify for states. Long won the 3200 during Tuesday’s opening day of competition.
Dolbin cruised to victory in the 110 hurdles in 14.41. He’ll compete in three individual events at states after winning the 300 hurdles and qualifying in the long jump Tuesday.
Both the Blue Mountain boys and Nativity boys’ relays not only won gold but broke the District 11 meet records in their events in the process.
The Eagles’ quartet of Kole Luckenbill, Chase Guers, Gaige Guers and Cole Swick won the Class 3A 400 relay in 41.48, eclipsing the previous mark of 41.78 set in 2022 by Wilson Area.
Nativity’s foursome of Daynorowicz, Stank, Dolbin and Liam Messina won the Class AA 1600 relay in 3:22.36, breaking their own mark of 3:23.82 set last year.
Minersville’s 400 relay of Grady McGovern, Dante Carr, Max Masser and LaPoint also qualified for states as their fourth-place time of 43.68 was faster than the qualifying standard of 44.03.
Other track medalists included Pottsville’s Donovann Durham (third in 3A 110 hurdles), Mahanoy Area’s William Mayberry (fourth in AA 1600) and Minersville’s Bradley Kostishak (fourth in AA 110 hurdles).

The Schuylkill League didn’t fare as well in the field as it did on the track, as Schuylkill Haven’s Ethan Kline was the only state qualifier by placing second in the Class AA shot put.
Pottsville’s Ryan Galen was third in the Class 3A discus, with Tamaqua’s Jacob Hehn fourth. Shenandoah Valley’s Michael Elchisak was fourth in the Class AA triple jump.
