HS Football: Schuylkill athletes compete in PFSCA East/West All-Star Game

MECHANICSBURG — Several Schuylkill League senior football stars participated in the PFSCA East/West All-Star Game at Cumberland Valley High School.

The event featured two games, one for Large Schools and the other for Small Schools.

In the Large School game, Blue Mountain’s Gaige Guers played for the East squad. He played safety on defense and on special teams on the kickoff return and punt return teams. He made several tackles.

The West defeated the East 17-12 as Erie McDowell’s James Zigler returned an interception for a touchdown and Altoona’s Mark Harrington returned a fumble for a TD for the winners.

Former Blue Mountain head coach Tom Gallagher served as an assistant coach for the East.

In the Small School game, Bald Eagle Area quarterback Carson Nagle led the West to a 14-0 win over the East. Nagle completed 17-of-25 passes for 254 yards and two touchdowns. He tossed a 1-yard touchdown pass to Bishop Guilfoyle’s Hamilton Gates and a 44-yard TD strike to Tyrone’s Trent Adams.

Six area players competed for the East: Schuylkill Haven long snapper Adam Malinoski, Schuylkill Haven cornerback Leyden Hertz, Tri-Valley quarterback Blake Schwartz, North Schuylkill offensive lineman Sander Stokes, Marian offensive lineman Adam Markovits and Mount Carmel offensive lineman Noah Shimko.

Panther Valley head coach Mark Levine served as an assistant coach for the East.

For the East, Schwartz completed 6-of-18 passes for 62 yards. He rushed twice for minus-9 yards. Hertz returned one punt for 19 yards.
