MAHANOY CITY — Dante Carr became Minersville’s all-time leader in passing yardage Friday night, leading the Miners to a 42-6 victory over Mahanoy Area in a Schuylkill-Colonial Blue Division game at Coach Faz Field at Alumni Stadium.

It was Minersville’s first win in Mahanoy City since 2011.

Carr broke the mark with an 11-yard pass to Justin Cutler in the second quarter. He surpassed the previous mark of 4,417 yards set by Scott Schwalm from 2016-19.

It was part of a big night for the Central Florida-bound senior, as he threw for four touchdowns and ran for another as Minersville (3-0, 2-0 Blue) scored six times in the first half en route to a 42-0 halftime lead.

Carr connected with Ty Atkinson on a 35-yard TD just 53 seconds into the game, then found Paiten LaPoint for an 8-yard score on Minersville’s next possession. Derek Derenzo made it 21-0 with a 10-yard run with 3:06 left in the first frame.

In the second quarter, Carr scored on a 45-yard run, completed a 7-yard TD pass to Atkinson, then hooked up with Matt Dube on a 9-yard TD with 52.5 left in the half.

Mahanoy Area (0-3, 0-2 Blue) reached the end zone for the first time all season with 6 seconds left in the game when Quintin Rucker scored on a 15-yard run.
