Schuylkill Haven wins pair

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN — Schuylkill Haven swept a doubleheader Wednesday, defeating Weatherly 8-0 in a Schuylkill League Division II match, then blanking Tamaqua 5-0 in a non-league contest.

With the wins, the Hurricanes improved their record to 12-4-1 overall, 9-0-1 in Division II.

In the nightcap, Taylor Haag scored three goals, while Audrey Hutchinson and Ava Terefencko netted one apiece for Schuylkill Haven, which led 3-0 at halftime.

Ally Becker made one save for the Hurricanes; Ceanna Gormley stopped 30 shots for the Blue Raiders (7-10).

Minersville 5, Williams Valley 2

MINERSVILLE — Sara McGrath scored two goals as Minersville used a fast start to defeat Williams Valley in a Division II match.

McGrath, assisted by Danica Gill, gave the Miners a 1-0 lead at the 10:50 mark. Hope Motuk scored unassisted at 25:36; McGrath connected from Grace Sterner at 29:52; and Jenna Cullen scored unassisted at 30:55 to help Minersville (13-2-2, 8-1-1 D-II) build a 4-1 halftime lead.

Marissa Miller got the Vikings (7-11, 5-5) on the board with an unassisted goal at 38:33.

In the second half, Kloee Horochak scored unassisted at 66:52 for Minersville. Quin Smeltz, assisted by Presley Shomper, netted a goal for the Vikes at 75:31.

Bella Rizzardi made one save for Minersville. Megan Perhach (7 saves) and Avery Stakem (10 saves) played in goal for Williams Valley.

The result creates a tie between Williams Valley and Tri-Valley for the No. 3 Division II berth into the Schuylkill League playoffs. A tiebreaker match will be played at 7 p.m. Thursday at Schuylkill Haven’s Rotary Field. The league playoffs will begin Saturday at Schuylkill Haven.

Pine Grove 0, Pottsville 0

POTTSVILLE — Pine Grove and Pottsville played to a scoreless tie in a Division I match.

Alyssa Moyer made five saves for the Cardinals (7-7-3, 5-4-2 D-I). Julie Stock stopped five shots for the Crimson Tide (9-7-1, 9-2-1).

Blue Mountain 8, Shenandoah Valley 0

ORWIGSBURG — Ella Smith scored two goals to lead Blue Mountain to a Division I victory over Shenandoah Valley.

Kelly Canfield added one goal and one assist for the Eagles (15-3, 12-0 D-I). Alanza Smith, Gianna Chipriano, Bella Polak, Kendall Koch and Lexi Waschko netted single goals for Blue Mountain.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Nativity 3, Williams Valley 0

TOWER CITY — Finley McNamara had 11 kills, five aces and three digs as Nativity swept Williams Valley 25-9, 25-18, 25-18 in a Division II match.

With the win, Nativity (12-7, 10-4 D-II) clinched a Schuylkill League playoff berth as the No. 3 seed in Division II. The league playoffs will begin Monday.

Also for Nativity, Addison Ricard notched 26 assists, five aces and two kills; Janelle Ziegmont posted nine kills and seven digs; and Morgan Howell added nine digs, four aces and two assists.

For Williams Valley (8-9, 8-6), Emily Miller had 16 digs and two kills; Hayley Fenlason added two kills and two blocks; and Emma Reinoehl compiled 16 digs and two kills.

Williams Valley won JV 2-1.

Blue Mountain 3, North Schuylkill 0

ORWIGSBURG — Jaedyn Bartholomew set school records for career kills and kills in a season to lead Blue Mountain to a 25-18, 25-17, 25-14 victory over North Schuylkill in a Division I match.

Bartholomew finished with 16 kills, 12 digs and five aces for the Eagles (15-3, 11-3 D-I). Piper Reinhart added seven kills, while Alexa Marshall notched eight digs, seven kills and three aces.

North Schuylkill won JV 2-1.
