WILLIAMSPORT — A successful birdie putt on the final hole turned out to be golden for Vivian Reiprish.

As in district gold.

The Lourdes junior captured the District 4 Class AA girls’ golf championship Saturday with a final round 88 at Williamsport Country Club. Her two-day total of 87-88—175 was good enough to edge Central Columbia’s Lauren Brosious by two strokes and clinch her second straight trip to the PIAA Golf Championships at Penn State.

Reiprish trailed Brosious by two strokes entering the par-4 18th hole. While Brosious struggled, Reiprish sank a difficult birdie putt to pull out her first-ever district crown.

“I knew I really had to attack the hole and just leave it all out there,” Reiprish said in a story written by C.J. Doebler of the Shamokin News-Item. “If I came up short, that’s what was going to happen, and I had to be OK with that.

“When the putt dropped, I was so excited,” she continued. “It felt amazing.”

The top four finishers in the District 4 Class AA girls’ golf championships were, from left: Towanda’s Olivia Heath, fourth place; Towanda’s Clara Glanz, third place; Central Columbia’s Lauren Brosious, second place; and Lourdes’ Vivian Reiprish, first place (submitted photo).

Unlike District 11, District 4 holds its district championship over two days at two different courses. Reiprish and Brosious both carded 87s in the opening round at White Deer Golf Course before battling back and forth in the final round at Williamsport CC.

The two golfers were tied through five holes before Brosious built a five-stroke lead after nine holes. Reiprish went 1-over on the first four holes of the back nine to climb back in it, then used the birdie on No. 18 to win it.

It will be Reiprish’s second trip to states after shooting 92-106—198 to place 36th.

“I’m hoping to do well, but I really do think I’ll be good at this course,” Reiprish said in The News-Item story. “I’m very confident.”

Brosious (87-90—177) was second, followed by Towanda’s Clara Glantz (100-99—199) and Olivia Heath (118-108—226). The top two finishers from District 4 qualify for states.

Reiprish will join Schuylkill League boys’ golfers Alan Evans of Schuylkill Haven, Sam Vinc of Tamaqua and Jude Maziekas of North Schuylkill at states. The Class AA boys and girls will play on the Penn State White Course for the two-day state tournament that’s slated for Monday-Tuesday, Oct. 20-21.
