WILLIAMSTOWN — It has been three games since Williams Valley changed head coaches, and it’s been nothing but success since then.
Now, the Vikings just have to focus on having a successful postseason run after concluding the regular season with a 62-0 rout of Pine Grove on Friday night in a Schuylkill-Colonial Blue Division game.
Williams Valley excelled on both sides of the ball on its Senior Night, gaining 500 yards of total offense and holding the Cardinals to just 25 yards in recording its fourth shutout of the season.
“The kids have been playing very well and making plays,” Williams Valley coach Ben Ancheff said. “The regular season is over and the postseason is everything. So we have to come prepared and come ready, We’ll start watching film and preparing, and we’ll see what happens next weekend.”
Quarterback Brady Shomper led the way on offense by completing 8-of-10 passes for 228 yards, which included four touchdown passes.
The first score of the game came on the Vikings’ first offense series when Trevon Bair connected with Evan Achenbach for a 38-yard touchdown on a halfback option play for a 7-0 lead with 9:17 left in the first quarter.
Achenbach then doubled the score on the Cardinals’ ensuing possession when he intercepted a pass from quarterback Wyatt Dixon and returned it 38 yards for a touchdown and a 14-0 lead.
Shomper then proceeded to connect on three touchdown passes of 13 yards to Bair, 11 yards to Colin Crisswell and 56 yards on Achenbach. Fletcher Thompson capped the first-half scoring with a 41-yard TD run to give Williams Valley a 42-0 lead at halftime.
Thompson rushed for 133 yards on 14 carries and later caught a 68-yard touchdown pass from Shomper in the third quarter.
“We got the ball to different targets,” Ancheff said. “Achenbach and Crisswell looked well and we got to throw the ball with a running back out of the backfield. I was happy with the result.”
Bair scored his second touchdown of the game with a 1-yard run in the third quarter. Evan Kandybowski capped the scoring on a 5-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
