Annual event set for Wednesday night at Rotary Field
SCHUYLKILL HAVEN — The experiment lasted one year.
This year, it’s back to North vs. South.
The Schuylkill County Football Coaches’ Association Senior All-Star Game will be held Wednesday, Nov. 26, beginning at 7 p.m. at Schuylkill Haven’s Rotary Field.
The annual event will be broadcast live on WPPA 1360 AM / 105.9 FM. Admission charge is $5 per person. The event is sponsored by Lehigh Valley Health Network.
This year, the format will be North vs. South. The SCFCA all-star game had used that North vs. South format in its first 37 meetings since its inception in the 1980s.
Last year, however, the SCFCA opted to go with a Big Schools vs. Small Schools setup. That format produced the biggest blowout in all-star game history as the Big Schools blanked the Small Schools 52-0.
Seven different players scored touchdowns for the Big Schools, who held the Small Schools to 54 total yards. It was the most points scored in an all-star game since the South beat the North 44-15 on June 12, 2010. It easily surpassed the biggest margin of victory — 35 — which was accomplished twice.
Wednesday, players from Mahanoy Area, Marian, North Schuylkill, Panther Valley, Pottsville, Shenandoah Valley and Tamaqua will suit up for the North. The South roster consists of players from Blue Mountain, Minersville, Nativity, Pine Grove, Schuylkill Haven, Tri-Valley and Williams Valley.
The North holds a 20-16-1 all-time lead in the SCFCA series, which began in 1988.
