HS Boys’ Basketball: Haven captures championship of UDA Tip-Off Tournament

Evans, Watcher lead Hurricanes past Upper Dauphin
ELIZABETHVILLE — A dominant first half propelled Schuylkill Haven to a third straight UDA Tip-Off Tournament championship Saturday night.
Alan Evans scored a game-high 26 points and Justin Watcher added 23 as Schuylkill Haven cruised to a 67-40 victory over the host Trojans to improve to 4-0 overall.
Evans scored 23 of his points in the first half, finishing with five 3-pointers, as the Hurricanes build a 46-18 lead at intermission. Watcher did a lot of his damage from the foul line, converting 7-of-10 from the stripe.

LEESPORT — Blue Mountain finally found its rhythm — and let it fly for four quarters.
The Eagles put together their most complete offensive showing of the young season, riding three double-digit scorers to a non-league win over Schuylkill Valley.
Cohen Werner led the way with a game-high 17 points, while Cohen Kirby added 15 inside. Sean Gaddy netted 13 points and Tyeirre Meade chipped in seven points, helping Blue Mountain control the game from the opening tip. The Eagles opened with a 17-11 lead and never trailed.
Blue Mountain’s balance and steady shot-making proved too much down the stretch as the Eagles outscored Schuylkill Valley in every quarter except the second to their first victory of the season.

MAHANOY CITY — Brady Shomper scored a game-high 19 points as Williams Valley powered past Mahanoy Area in a non-league matchup Saturday afternoon.
Shomper led a balanced Vikings effort that also featured Evan Achenbach with 14 points and Bryce Zilinski with eight, helping Williams Valley seize control with an 18-8 first quarter and maintain its lead throughout. Ryan Dickerson added two 3-pointers as the Vikings kept the Golden Bears at arm’s length.
Mahanoy Area received a strong performance from Cam Smith, who hit six 3-pointers and finished with 18 points, while Ryan Zilker added eight points.

LEWISBURG — North Schuylkill battled wire-to-wire but couldn’t overcome a tough third quarter as the Spartans fell to Lewisburg in a non-league game.
The Spartans received a strong effort from Cam Kacilowicz, who scored a team-high 13 points, including a pair of 3-pointers. North Schuylkill matched the Green Dragons through the first half, trailing just 24-23 at the break.
Lewisburg, however, used a 19-6, third-quarter run to create the separation North Schuylkill couldn’t recover from despite a 14-point fourth-quarter push.

POTTSVILLE — Trey Keating did everything he could to keep Nativity afloat, pouring in a game-high 24 points with four 3-pointers as the Hilltoppers couldn’t slow Pittston Area in a non-league loss Saturday.
Keating was the lone Hilltopper in double figures. Nativity fell behind after a cold second quarter, managing just five points as Pittston Area built a commanding 39-16 halftime lead.

MOUNT CARMEL — Tamaqua got a team-high 10 points from Gavin Shannon, but the Blue Raiders couldn’t slow Mount Carmel’s offense in a non-league loss on the road Saturday.
Ace Schickram added eight points and Terrance McDowell scored six for Tamaqua, which trailed 24-10 after the first quarter and couldn’t recover against a balanced Red Tornado attack.
