HS Wrestling: Pine Grove boys place 3rd at DKI Invitational

BLOOMSBURG — Colby Townley captured the 145-pound championship Saturday to lead Pine Grove to a third-place finish in the 25-team Darren Klingerman Invitational (DKI) at Bloomsburg High School.

The Cardinals finished with 150.5 points, behind only champion Honesdale (218) and runner-up Abington Heights (162). Red Land (141.5) and Hanover Area (132.5) rounded out the top five. Locally, Mahanoy Area placed sixth; Tamaqua finished 14th; and Schuylkill Haven took 23rd.

In the finals, Townley racked up a technical fall, 20-4 in 5:15 over Crestwood’s Micah Engelman.

Aaron Osatchuck (152) placed second; Scout Frantz (285) took fourth; James Hoy (139), Isaiah Miller (172) and Zach Kurtz (215) finished fifth; and Chase Nagle (121) got sixth for the Cardinals.

Mahanoy Area had a strong tournament, crowning two champions in Rory Dixon (152) and Kyler Quick (215). Dixon defeated Osatchuck by technical fall in the finals, 15-0 in 2:25. Quick decisioned Brockway’s Madox Decker 10-3 for his gold. Freshman Arturo Reyes earned a silver medal for the Golden Bears, falling 5-3 to Hamburg state qualifier Chase Homan in the 127-pound finals.

Stanley Boris (189) placed fifth, and William Stoyer (189) took eighth for Mahanoy Area.

For Tamaqua, Rylan Reitz (121) placed third; Brody Schlier (139) took a fourth; Evan Temanantz (152) finished fifth; and Jonathan Knepper (160) placed eighth.

Jack Krammes (152) finished seventh for Schuylkill Haven.

Eagles’ Woll strikes gold at Solanco

QUARRYVILLE — Blue Mountain senior Owen Woll (160) stormed to a championship at the Solanco Mule Classic with three falls and a major decision.

Woll took the title with a 10-1 victory over Santino Sianni of Salesianum School, Delaware.

Blue Mountain had another finalist as Vaughn Helverson took second at 285. Exeter’s Kevin Oswalt defeated Helverson 13-3 in the finals.

Caden Fenstermacher (114) placed fourth, and Cooper Leibold (127) finished eighth for the Eagles.

Blue Mountain finished tied with York Suburban for eighth place with 119.5 points. Central Dauphin took the team title in the 25-school event with 245.5 points. Palmyra (186), Donegal (175), Salesianum School (170) and Cocalico (150) completed the top five.

Spartans go 4-1 at duals

ERDENHEIM — Gaige Mentusky (107), Evan Miernicki (114), Stanley Padakowski (121), Noah Leib (133), Brock Holmes (139), Bryce Kile (160) and Connor Dower (189) posted 4-1 records for North Schuylkill at the Spartan Duals at Springfield Township High School.

North Schuylkill defeated Harriton (72-0), Springfield Township (65-6), Germantown Friends (75-0) and Springfield Delco (48-25). The win over Delco in the final dual of the day marked the 100th career victory for head coach Corey Fetterolf.

In its other dual, national power Malvern Prep downed North Schuylkill 67-0.

Easton Edwards (127) had a 3-1 record for North Schuylkill, while Bode Gates (145), Kaden Tavares (152), Ben Carr (172), Cadyn McGraw (215) and Will Wysoski (285) went 3-2.

McFarland reaches milestone for Tide

POTTSVILLE — According to reported results, Terrell McFarland (215) won four bouts Saturday at the Case-Flynn Duals at Martz Hall to reach 100 victories for his career.

McFarland had three falls and a forfeit in the matches reported. Pottsville fell to Northern York 65-12, to Milton 49-24 and to William Tennent 44-30. The Crimson Tide topped Palmerton 42-26. Pottsville also had scheduled matches against Pocono Mountain East and Radnor; those results were not posted.

Cole Cook (114) also went 4-0 for the Tide.

4 Dawgs place at Top Hat

WILLIAMSPORT — Led by Max Masser’s runner-up finish at 189, Tri-Valley placed 12th in the 24-team Top Hat Tournament at Williamsport Area High School.

Emmaus won the team title with 206 points, edging runner-up Connellsville (204). Mifflinburg (176.5), Central Mountain (152) and Derry Area (139.5) rounded out the top five.

Masser had three wins to make the finals, including a 5-2 decision in sudden victory over Halifax’s Teegan Carroll in the semifinals. In the title match, Hazleton Area’s Mason Marolo pinned Masser in 1:35.

Other placewinners for the Bulldogs included Owen Wolfgang (fourth at 107), Hunter Updegrave (sixth at 172) and Jaxson Bruso (eighth at 139).

Panther places at Sam Lovello

TOPTON — Carlos Maldonado-Rosa (285) finished sixth at the Sam Lovello Classic at Brandywine Heights High School.

The Panthers finished 15th in the 16-team field. Berks Catholic won the team title with 216.5 points, followed by Lehighton (155), Blair Academy, New Jersey (152) and Conrad Weiser (143.5).

2 Tide girls place at tourney

LEESPORT — Tayla Seiders (148) finished second and Halel Campo (130) took third for Pottsville on Friday at the Schuylkill Valley Girls’ Wrestling Tournament.

Pottsville finished ninth in the 13-team event. Northeastern won the team title with 51 points. Kutztown (35) placed second.
