Boys’ BB Weekend Roundup: Bears nip Colts; Eagles, Dawgs, Cards, Wreckers score non-league wins

Mahanoy Area edges Marian in non-league clash
MAHANOY CITY — In a game of runs, Mahanoy Area had just enough Saturday to hold off backyard rival Marian.
Connor Bowman scored a game-high 21 points as the Golden Bears edged the Colts 57-53 in a non-league contest at the Mickey Holland Gymnasium.
Bowman had three of his five 3-pointers and scored 11 points in a 23-point second quarter that gave Mahanoy Area a 37-24 halftime lead.
Marian answered with a 17-5 run in the third period to slice the deficit to 42-41 entering the fourth. Gregory Tirpak hit a trio of 3-pointers in the outburst.
Cam Smith had seven of his 12 points in the fourth as Mahanoy Area hung on. The teams combined to shoot 8-for-29 from the foul line, with the Bears hitting 3-of-15 and the Colts connecting on 5-of-14.
Nico DiCasimirro added 10 points for Mahanoy Area. Tirpak paced Marian with 17 points while James Cannon had 12 and Mitchel Knock and Justin DeLaCruz each tallied 10.

NORTHAMPTON — Tyeirre Meade scored eight of his team-high 24 points in a fourth-quarter rally as the Eagles scored an impressive non-league road victory over the Konkrete Kids.
Blue Mountain trailed 46-44 entering the fourth before closing with a 21-12 run. Beck Henninger added a pair of 3-pointers, Cohen Werner tallied four points and Evan Setlock netted three in the run, with the Eagles hitting all four of their free throws in the frame.
Werner finished with 18 points for Blue Mountain, scoring 10 in the first half. Northampton entered the game 8-1, with its only loss coming to Parkland.

Hayden Felty added 17 points and Wyatt Snyder pulled down 16 rebounds for Pine Grove, which trailed 45-39 entering the fourth quarter. Felty added seven points and Tanner Kolb netted four as part of a 23-7, game-closing run.
