HS Swimming: Blue Mountain boys edge Saucon Valley in thriller

Blue Mountain freshman Porter Sarnes
ORWIGSBURG — Two of District 11’s best Class AA boys’ swimming and diving teams squared off Monday and the meet lived up to the hype.
Blue Mountain used a pair of close victories and its overall depth to edge Saucon Valley 94-76 in a non-league contest at the Glen Belmont Natatorium to remain unbeaten.
The meet started with a bang as the Eagles’ quartet of Brody Moyer, Zach Scala, Porter Sarnes and Aidan Varney nipped the Saucon Valley foursome of Theodore Wechtler, Brody Warner, Thomas King and Jacob Weikert in a photo finish in the 200-yard medley relay, winning by one hundredth of a second — 1:44.86 to 1:44.87.
Varney added a close victory later in the meet, winning the 100 freestyle in 52.34. Weikert was second in 52.55.
Moyer won two individual events for Blue Mountain (7-0), taking first in the 100 fly and 100 backstroke. Moyer and Sarnes finished 1-2 in the fly, while Sarnes took first in the 200 IM. Liam Magdeburg added a victory in the 500 freestyle and the Eagles capped the meet with a victory in the 400 freestyle relay.
