MINERSVILLE — Milestones and momentum collided Monday night, and Minersville made sure both stayed home.

Shazier Bethea etched his name into program history by scoring his 1,000th career point, then helped power the Battlin’ Miners past North Schuylkill 58-44 in a Schuylkill League Division I clash that doubled as the centerpiece of the evening.

Bethea reached the milestone in fitting fashion late in the first quarter, muscling through contact for an and-1 layup at the 1:44 mark to give him 10 points on the night and push his career total to 1,000. The basket capped a dominant opening stretch for Minersville, which jumped out to a 20-2 lead after one quarter and never looked back.

The Battlin’ Miners (10-1, 6-1) set the tone early. Chase Zimerofsky knocked down a pair of shots in the opening frame, while Bethea’s milestone moment ignited a crowd that watched Minersville control the tempo from the opening tip.

The Spartans (7-5, 3-3) settled in after the rocky start and showed resilience behind Jude Maziekas, who poured in a game-high 21 points and hit five 3-pointers. North Schuylkill chipped away over the next two quarters, cutting into the margin with improved ball movement and perimeter shooting, but every push was met by timely answers from the Miners.

Minersville’s balance proved decisive. Bethea finished with a team-high 15 points, Zimerofsky added 12 and Nolan Plesnarski chipped in 14, including four triples that helped keep the Spartans at arm’s length.

Jordan Bowers contributed nine points, 10 rebounds, eight assists and five steals as the Miners consistently found the open shooter and limited second-chance opportunities on the other end.
