HS Girls’ Hoops: Lourdes dominates Mahanoy Area in Division II showdown

MAHANOY CITY — Lourdes left no doubt.

The Red Raiders made an emphatic statement on who is the best Schuylkill League Division II girls’ basketball team Tuesday night with a 48-12 rout of Mahanoy Area at the Joe Alansky Gymnasium.

Lourdes held the Golden Bears scoreless in the opening period and led 25-4 at the half in a battle for first place in Division II. Mahanoy Area shot 2-for-20 in the first 16 minutes.

Kylla Sandri led a trio of double-digit scorers with 16 for Lourdes (9-1, 6-0 D-II), while Hannah Lokitis added 12 points and Sophia Karlovich tallied 10. Lokitis had 10 rebounds and five steals.

Williams Valley 48, Marian 28

HOMETOWN — Mallory Miller led a quartet of double-digit scorers with 14 points as the Vikings stormed past the Fillies in a clash of Schuylkill League Division II playoff contenders.

Miller had 10 of her points in the first half as Williams Valley opened the game on a 19-6 run and led 31-14 at halftime.

Presley Shomper hit a trio of 3-pointers and had 11 points, while Ella Kobularik and Quin Smeltz completed the total team effort with 10 points apiece. The Vikings have won six straight.

DeAnna Pugh and Haley Minzola each scored nine points for Marian.

Blue Mountain 47, Pine Grove 36

PINE GROVE — Delaney Walborn drained four 3-pointers and scored all 12 of her points in the first half as the Eagles surprised the Cardinals in a Schuylkill League Division I game.

Walborn’s hot shooting helped Blue Mountain take an 11-6 lead after one quarter and build a 28-15 halftime advantage.

Callie Peel picked up the slack in the second half, scoring 10 of her team-high 13 points. Mila Fleagle added 11 points as Blue Mountain thrust itself into the Division I playoff race.

Hollyn Sampson led all scorers with a game-high 20 points for Pine Grove.

Tamaqua 47, Panther Valley 44

LANSFORD — Lauren Ligenza recorded a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds as the Blue Raiders fended off the Panthers in a Schuylkill League Division I game.

Ligenza had 13 of her points in the first half as Tamaqua took a 25-21 halftime lead. Kendle Miller tallied seven of her 13 points in the third quarter to keep the Raiders ahead. Tamaqua survived despite shooting 1-for-9 from the foul line in the fourth quarter.

Lucy Kocha led Panther Valley with 17 points, 14 of which came in the second half. Morgan Orsulak added 11 points.

MINERSVILLE — The Crimson Tide opened the game on an 11-3 run and didn’t look back, winning their third straight game by beating the Miners in a Schuylkill League Division I game at the Thomas Fitzpatrick Gymnasium.

Jes Siminitus paced a balanced attack with 12 points, while Lauren Brennan added nine, Ava Ciavarella netted eight and Jo Barnhart tallied seven.

Jenna Cullen led all scorers with 15 points for Minersville.

WEATHERLY — Avery Miller scored a game-high 20 points and Ava Snyder added 14 as the Dawgs used a second-half surge to down the Wreckers in a Schuylkill League Division II game.

Miller and Snyder each had 10 points in the second half as Tri-Valley outscored Weatherly 27-16 in the final two frames after leading 18-14 at intermission.

Maci Kane led Weatherly with 16 points, draining four 3-pointers. Leading scorer Kelly Reiner was held to six points.

POTTSVILLE — Jocelyn Chagolla outscored the Golden Girls by herself, pouring in 22 points as the Blue Devils captured a Schuylkill League Division II win atop Lawton’s Hill.

Chagolla tallied 16 of her points in the second half as Shenandoah Valley outscored Nativity 30-7 over the final two periods after leading 18-14 at halftime.
