HS Swimming/Diving: Klinger breaks 500-point mark, takes 3rd at Flips of Fury

ALLENTOWN — Pottsville’s Adam Klinger said after the Schuylkill League Diving Invitational that breaking the 500-point mark in the 11-dive competition was a major goal.
It only took him two weeks to achieve it.
Klinger placed third at Saturday’s Flips of Fury diving competition at Parkland High School, scoring a career-high 501.30 points. Cody Smith of Bethlehem Freedom won the title with 558.60 points, while Tyler Reeve of Ridley was second at 510.80 points.
Pottsville’s Colin Kline was 17th in the 21-diver competition, finishing with a season’s-best 291.30 points. Klinger’s point total is 57.15 points higher than last season, when the Seton Hall signee placed seventh at 444.15.

4 Schuylkill League swimmers strike gold at Muhlenberg Mayhem
LAURELDALE — Four Schuylkill League swimmers captured first-place finishes at the annual Muhlenberg Mayhem invitational at Muhlenberg High School.
Schuylkill Haven’s Ethan Miller took first in the boys’ 200 IM (56.28), Tamaqua’s Savannah Wilson won the girls’ 100 breaststroke (1:07.64), Mahanoy Area’s Lily Brown grabbed first in the 100 backstroke (1:01.52) and Schuylkill Haven’s Hope Stauffer touched first in the girls’ 100 freestyle (55.59).
Swimmers from Blue Mountain, Mahanoy Area, North Schuylkill, Schuylkill Haven and Tamaqua competed in the 23-team competition. No team scores were compiled.
The four gold-medal performances were part of a big day for Schuylkill League swimmers, which combined to capture 14 top-four finishes.
