HS Girls’ Wrestling: Locals learn pairings for regionals

QUAKERTOWN — Five Schuylkill League girls will continue their journey to the PIAA Wrestling Championships when they compete in the Southeast Regional Girls’ Wrestling Championships on Sunday at Quakertown High School.
Action will begin at noon on four mats with the quarterfinals, followed by the semifinals and consolation quarterfinals at 1 p.m., the consolation semifinals at 2:15 p.m. and the fifth-place bouts at 3 p.m. After a break, the first- and third-place matches will be contested at 5 p.m. on two mats.
The top five finishers from District 1/12 and the top three from District 11 form an eight-girl bracket.
Three-time state champion Brenda Banks, a Panther Valley senior, is the No. 1 seed at 235 pounds.
The top four placewinners in each weight class will advance to the state tournament.
