BETHLEHEM — It’s tournament time!

The District 11 Wrestling Committee on Wednesday released the seeds for the District 11 Boys’ Wrestling Championships, to be held Friday and Saturday in Bethlehem.

The Schuylkill League garnered seven No. 1 seeds in Class AA, five more than the league had last season. They are Tri-Valley senior Owen Wolfgang at 107 pounds, Tamaqua freshman Rylan Reitz at 114, Mahanoy Area freshman Arturo Reyes at 121, Mahanoy Area junior Rory Dixon at 152, Tri-Valley junior Hunter Updegrave at 172, Mahanoy Area senior Kyler Quick at 215, and Williams Valley senior Camron Green at 285.

The league showed its firepower at 215, taking the top three seeds in a 14-wrestler field. Following Quick (40-3) are Pine Grove junior Zach Kurtz (32-6) at No. 2 and North Schuylkill senior Cadyn McGraw (30-9) at No. 3. McGraw is the defending district champion at the weight class.

Last season, Quick finished second at 189, and Wolfgang earned silver at 107.

Mahanoy Area, North Schuylkill, Panther Valley, Pine Grove, Schuylkill Haven, Tamaqua, Tri-Valley and Williams Valley will wrestle in Class AA.

Blue Mountain and Pottsville will compete in Class 3A.

The big-school bracket is chock full of state champions, PIAA placewinners and other assorted hammers.

Blue Mountain senior Owen Woll (33-4) is the No. 2 seed at 160. Southern Lehigh junior Keith Barker (16-4) took the top spot.

At 189, Pottsville senior Terrell McFarland (36-0) finds himself in a loaded bracket. Notre Dame-Green Pond senior Dominic Sumpolec (29-5) is the No. 1 seed; he placed fifth at states last season. Nazareth senior Brayden Zuercher (36-2) comes in at No. 2; Zuercher finished fourth at states last season.

The weekend will conclude with the Southeast Regional Girls’ Wrestling Championships on Sunday at Quakertown High School. Last Sunday, Panther Valley’s Brenda Banks (235) and Pine Grove’s Geanna Lemke (142) captured District 11 gold. In addition to Banks and Lemke, Panther Valley’s Alisa Williams (170) and Pine Grove’s Rileigh Purcell (190) and Audrey Graeff (235) also qualified for regionals.
