HS Wrestling: Regional schedule, pairings released

CENTER VALLEY — Late Sunday, the PIAA, district and regional committees released the official schedules and brackets for regional boys’ wrestling competitions to be held around the state this weekend.
Locally, teams will compete Friday and Saturday, Feb. 27-28.
Pottsville qualified one for the Northeast Regional Class 3A Wrestling Championships at Liberty High School, Bethlehem. Meanwhile, Pine Grove (6), Tri-Valley (5), North Schuylkill (5), Mahanoy Area (4), Williams Valley (2) and Tamaqua (1) will take part in the Southeast Regional Class AA Wrestling Championships, which have been moved from the Lehigh Valley to Warwick High School, Lititz.
The Schuylkill League crowned six District 11 Class AA champions Saturday night: Tri-Valley’s Owen Wolfgang (107), Tamaqua’s Rylan Reitz (114), Mahanoy Area’s Arturo Reyes (121), Mahanoy Area/Marian’s Rory Dixon (152), Mahanoy Area’s Kyler Quick (215) and Williams Valley’s Camron Green (285). The coaches voted Dixon as the Class AA Outstanding Wrestler.
The six champs will all be in the Southeast Region field.

Schedule: Friday — Round of 16 (4 mats) at 4:30 p.m., championship quarterfinals at 6:45 p.m., first-round consolations at 8:45 p.m. Saturday — Second-round consolations at 9:30 a.m., championship semifinals and third-round consolations at 11 a.m., fourth-round consolations including seventh-place matches at 12:30 p.m., championship finals, third- and fifth-place bouts (3 mats) at 4 p.m.
Advancement: The top five placewinners in each weight class will qualify for the PIAA Wrestling Championships on March 5-7 at the Giant Center in Hershey.
