D-11 Girls’ Hoops Roundup: Wreckers roll to title game; Crimson Tide drop

BRODHEADSVILLE — Weatherly pulled away in the second quarter and never looked back.

Kelly Reiner scored a game-high 14 points as Weatherly defeated Notre Dame-East Stroudsburg 32-19 in a District 11 Class A semifinal girls’ basketball game Wednesday at Pleasant Valley High School.

Weatherly led just 8-6 after one quarter but broke the game open in the second, outscoring Notre Dame 11-2 to take a 19-8 halftime advantage. The Wreckers maintained control the rest of the way, holding the Spartans to just three fourth-quarter points.

Weatherly advances to take on top-seeded Bethlehem Christian in Saturday’s Class A title matchup at 11:30 a.m. at Easton High School.

Maci Kane added 10 points for the Wreckers, Alexia Kehler chipped in five, and Abby Weston scored three as the Wreckers knocked down three 3-pointers.

With the win, Weatherly also secures a berth in the PIAA Class A Tournament.

ALLENTOWN — Southern Lehigh outlasted Pottsville in a District 11 Class 5A semifinal girls’ basketball matchup at Executive Education.

The teams were tied 11-11 after one quarter, and the Crimson Tide carried an 18-16 lead into halftime. After matching 9-9 third quarters, the Spartans forced overtime by edging the Tide 5-3 in the fourth.

Southern Lehigh took control in the extra session, outscoring Pottsville 6-2 to seal the win.

Jes Siminitus led the Crimson Tide with 13 points, while Jo Barnhart added 10.

Eliana Marques paced Southern Lehigh with 15 points, and Samantha Fentanez added seven.
