SCHUYLKILL HAVEN — Runs came in bunches, and Schuylkill Haven had just enough answers late.
The Hurricanes held on in a back-and-forth battle with Pine Grove for a 10-9 non-league victory Saturday at Scott Buffington Field.
Schuylkill Haven jumped out early, but Pine Grove answered with a five-run third inning to take control. The Hurricanes responded, tying the game in the bottom half before the Cardinals regained the lead in the fourth to keep the pressure on.

The decisive swing came in the bottom half of the sixth. Schuylkill Haven plated four runs, highlighted by a two-run single from Bode Hinnershitz, to take a 10-7 lead. Pine Grove made one final push in the seventh, as Wyatt Snyder launched a two-run homer, but the Hurricanes were able to close it out.
Wyatt Gerber and Chase Yoder each collected three hits to lead Schuylkill Haven’s 11-hit attack, while Hinnershitz drove in five runs. Michael Terefencko added two hits.
Pine Grove finished with 12 hits, led by Wyatt Dixon’s three-hit performance, while Dane Hannevig, Ian Brown and Kaiden Umbenhauer each added multiple hits.
Landon Trostle earned the win in relief, and Alan Evans secured the save as Schuylkill Haven survived the late push.

The Vikings broke through in the fourth inning and added insurance in the fifth, with Fletcher Thompson doubling in a run and Cayden Witmer contributing two hits, including a triple.
Panther Valley managed four hits, with Brody Breiner collecting two, but couldn’t solve Rautzahn in the loss.

Pottsville 8, Wyomissing 2
POTTSVILLE — Dom Rynard delivered the big swing as Pottsville rolled past Wyomissing in non-league action at Steidle Field.
Rynard drove in four runs, highlighted by a three-run homer in the fourth inning that helped the Crimson Tide break the game open. Pottsville added four runs in that frame to take control. Brody Eroh and Christian Alvarez doubled for the Tide.
Brody Hess earned the win for Pottsville, allowing one run over five innings while striking out seven.
Interesting note, the Schuylkill League continues to be Wyomissing’s kryptonite — the Spartans only other loss to this point on the season came to North Schuylkill. Schuylkill Haven will look to continue that league streak as the Hurricanes travel to take on Wyomissing on Monday at 2 p.m.

Shenandoah Valley struck early, but Notre Dame rallied to take the lead in the middle innings before the Blue Devils answered late. Gene Sinkus delivered an RBI single ahead of McCole’s decisive blast in the sixth.
