HS Baseball Roundup: Setlock dominates, Spartans hold off rally

Blue Mountain ace twirls one-hitter, North Schuylkill survives late push, Shenandoah Valley and Nativity roll behind big bats
ORWIGSBURG — Evan Setlock was in complete control from start to finish.
Setlock tossed a complete-game one-hitter and drove in four runs to lead Blue Mountain past Pottsville 5-0 in a Schuylkill League Division I baseball game Tuesday at Allen Greenawalt Field.
The Eagles capitalized early, taking advantage of miscues to score three runs in the first before adding two more in the third, highlighted by an RBI single from Setlock.
Setlock struck out seven and didn’t allow a walk, while Pottsville managed just one hit — a single from Dom Rynard.
Aiden Finn added two hits for Blue Mountain, which played a clean game defensively behind its ace to secure the shutout victory.

FOUNTAIN SPRINGS — North Schuylkill built an early lead and held off a late rally from Tamaqua to earn a Division I victory.
The Spartans scored twice in the first inning and added insurance runs in the third and sixth before the Blue Raiders pushed across three runs in the seventh to close the gap.
Chase Slotcavage earned the win, striking out nine over six innings, while Stephen Minahan led North Schuylkill with two hits. Slotcavage, Minahan, Aaron Brayford and Landen Smith each had an RBI.
Gavan Hess doubled for Tamaqua, while Gavin Edmonds added an RBI.

MINERSVILLE — Shenandoah Valley used steady offense and timely hits to top Minersville in a Division II ballgame.
The Blue Devils built a 3-1 lead through the first three innings and added insurance late, while holding off a Minersville push.
Chase McCole led the way with four hits, while Haden Kechula added three as Shenandoah Valley piled up 10 hits.
Nolan Plesnarski had two hits and drove in all three runs for Minersville in the loss.

POTTSVILLE — Nativity’s bats came alive early and never cooled off as the Hilltoppers erupted for six runs in the first inning and piled up 18 hits to roll past Weatherly in a Schuylkill League contest.
Marc Lutzkanin led the offensive surge with four hits, while Nick Clarke added three and Jorge Sullivan drove in three runs. Nativity added on throughout, building a comfortable lead by the middle innings.
Cash Kalkiewicz earned the win, allowing one run over four innings, while Weatherly was limited to just two hits in the loss.
Niko Suarez and Kameron Jacoby each added a hit for the Wreckers.

LANSFORD — Danny Wehr and Gabe Perilli combined on a one-hit shutout as Panther Valley earned its first victory of the season with a non-league triumph over Executive Education.
Wehr pitched 4.1 innings, allowing one hit while striking out nine and walking two. Perilli whiffed two in his two-thirds of an inning of work.


Brody Breiner sparked the Panthers’ offense by gong 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.
Panther Valley, which broke the game open with an eight-run first inning, got contributions up and down the lineup. Other top hitters included Michael Mazzie, 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs; Wehr, a single, two RBIs and a run scored; Gavin Yuricheck, a double, two RBIs and a run scored; and Carson Jones, a single, two RBIs and a run scored.
