HS Softball: Schuylkill Haven shuts down Marian

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN — Alli Scherer enjoyed a big day in the circle and at the plate to lead Schuylkill Haven past Marian 5-1 in a Schuylkill League Division II softball game Wednesday on the Schuylkill Haven campus.

Scherer pitched a complete game, allowing six hits and one run. She struck out nine and walked one. With her bat, Scherer doubled home run in the second inning and plated an insurance run with a safety-squeeze bunt in the sixth.
Marian loaded the bases with one out in the top of the first inning, but Scherer notched a strikeout and a comebacker to escape trouble. In the bottom of the first, Danica Snyder blooped a two-run single to put the Hurricanes up 2-0.
Scherer’s RBI double upped the lead to 3-0 in the second.
In the fourth, Snyder tripled and scored on Braelynn Strenkoski’s RBI double. Snyder finished 2-for-3 with a triple, two RBIs and a run scored.


Octavia Houvig went 2-for-2 with a double and a run scored, while Joie Schoffstall went 2-for-2 with a double and a run scored for Schuylkill Haven. Aisley Jenan added a 2-for-3 day with a double.

ALMEDIA — Aubrie Monaghan clubbed two doubles for Shenandoah Valley in a non-league loss to Columbia-Montour Vo-Tech.

Monaghan finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs and three runs scored for the Blue Devils. Zoey Zulkowski scored three runs.
CMVT scored in each of the first five innings to build a 13-5 lead. The Devils scored four runs in the top of the seventh before the Rams got the final out.
