SCHUYLKILL HAVEN — Schuylkill Haven’s offense came out swinging.
The Hurricanes tallied 10 runs through the first two innings and rolled past Marian 14-4 in six innings in a Schuylkill League Division II baseball game Wednesday at Scott Buffington Field.
After surrendering a run in the top of the first, Schuylkill Haven responded immediately with a four-run bottom half to seize control. Chase Yoder delivered an RBI single, and Chase Maley followed with a bases-clearing double to flip the momentum and give Haven a 4-1 lead.
The Hurricanes broke the game open in the second. Taking advantage of timely hits and patient at-bats, Schuylkill Haven scored six runs in the inning, highlighted by a two-run single from Yoder and an RBI double from Bode Hinnershitz. Walks and situational hitting kept the line moving as Haven pushed the lead into double digits.
Schuylkill Haven continued to apply pressure in the third, adding two more runs on an error and an RBI single from Landon Houck to extend the advantage to 12-1.
Alan Evans earned the win on the mound, going 5 1/3 innings while allowing four runs on five hits with four strikeouts. Yoder came on in relief to finish things off.
At the plate, the Hurricanes were balanced and productive. Yoder and Maley each drove in three runs, while Yoder, Evans and Hinnershitz all recorded two hits as part of a nine-hit effort. Haven also showed patience at the plate, drawing 10 walks to keep pressure on Marian throughout.
Marian finished with five hits, with Jonathan Derr driving in a run early and Chase Quinn-Gutsie adding a two-run homer later, but the Colts couldn’t recover from Schuylkill Haven’s early offensive surge.
