HS Boys’ Tennis: Eagles’ Burcik earns silver at D-11 Singles

BETHLEHEM — Blue Mountain junior Evan Burcik reached the finals of the District 11 Class AA Singles Tournament on Thursday before settling for a runner-up finish at Bethlehem Freedom High School.
Burcik, seeded third, started the day by knocking off No. 2 seed Tommy Spinosa of Allentown Central Catholic 6-4, 6-2 in the semifinals. No. 1 seed Aveer Chadha of Moravian Academy eliminated No. 4 seed Bekim Cokrilja of Lehighton in the other semifinal.
In the title match, Chadha defeated Burcik 6-3, 6-1.
Burcik became the first Blue Mountain player to reach the District 11 finals of the singles or doubles tournament in 10 years.
Burcik and his doubles partner, Evan Bixler, enter the District 11 Class AA Doubles Tournament as the No. 2 seed. The Eagles’ Elias Eichert and Camren Watters are the No. 9 seed. The doubles tournament starts at noon Tuesday at Lehigh University.
