HS Baseball Roundup: Russo’s strong outing not enough as Blue Mountain falls in pitcher’s duel

FREDRICKSBURG — Frankie Russo turned in a strong outing, but Blue Mountain couldn’t generate enough offense in a tight non-league loss to Northern Lebanon.
Northern Lebanon edged the Eagles 3-2 on Saturday, riding timely hits early and a complete-game effort on the mound to hold off a late push.
The Vikings scratched out runs in each of the first three innings, with Christian Anspach and Landon Copenhaver delivering key RBI hits to build a 3-0 lead.
Russo kept Blue Mountain within striking distance, going six innings while allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits and striking out five. The Eagles broke through with a pair of runs behind RBIs from Russo and Sonny Amato, but couldn’t find the equalizer down the stretch.
Aiden Finn led Blue Mountain with two hits as the Eagles finished with five on the day, but were limited by Northern Lebanon’s pitching. Adrian Gonzalez went the distance for the Vikings, striking out 10 and working around traffic to secure the narrow win.
All other local weekend games were postponed due to weather.
