HS Softball: Blue Mountain knocks off Hazleton Area

HAZLE TWP. — Emily Leonard pitched a two-hit shutout to lead Blue Mountain to a 4-0 victory over Hazleton Area on Friday in a non-league softball game.

Leonard struck out nine and walked none.

Scoreless into the fifth inning, Anna Borden delivered an RBI single to put Blue Mountain on the board. The Eagles added a run in the sixth inning and two more in the seventh for insurance. Borden finished 2-for-3 on the day.

Leonard helped herself with a single and an RBI.

Addyson Fishburn sparked Blue Mountain’s offense out of the leadoff spot, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and a run scored. Aryana Reilly went 2-for-4 with a run scored, and Emmerson Frie singled and drove in two runs for the Eagles.

LANSFORD — Danika Blazosky, Janessa Prudente and Isabella D’Ancona rapped three hits apiece as Panther Valley outslugged Jim Thorpe in a non-league game.

Prudente went 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, four RBIs and two runs scored for the Panthers, who scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to pull out the win.

Blazosky went 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI, while D’Ancona finished 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, three RBIs and a run scored.

Other top hitters for Panther Valley included Megan O’Brien, 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored; Brooklynn Mika, 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI; and Kathryn Breslin, 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Panther Valley’s Ava Alabovitz pitched a complete game, allowing two earned runs with four strikeouts and no walks. She added a double at the plate.
