10 new boys’, 9 new girls’ marks this week
Late-season track and field invitationals are prime opportunities to post season-best times and distances.
That was the case for several local thinclads Friday night at the Blue Mountain Invitational.
Seven boys’ marks and seven girls’ standards were topped at Friday’s invitational, most of them coming on the track. North Schuylkill’s Luke Miller (100) and Minersville’s Alyssa Cook (pole vault) also set or tied season-bests at Friday’s Cy Fritz Open at Millersville University, meaning there are eight new top times/distances for both the boys and girls just from this past weekend.
All total, there are 10 new boys’ and nine new girls’ standards for this week, with the postseason looming closer.
The final round of Schuylkill League dual meets is scheduled for Tuesday, with both girls’ division titles still up for grabs. Blue Mountain visits Minersville in Division I, while Nativity treks to Mahanoy Area in Division II.
The Schuylkill League Track and Field Championships follow next week, Tuesday-Wednesday, May 5-6, at Blue Mountain, with the District 11 Track and Field Championships slated for Tuesday-Wednesday, May 12-13.
