JIM THORPE — Four Schuylkill League athletes each won two events and several others grabbed gold medals at Thursday’s Jim Thorpe Invitational track meet at Olympian Stadium.
Nativity’s Shane Meyer had a big day, winning the 800 meters and 3200 while placing second in the 1600. Pottsville’s Donovann Durham swept the hurdle events and Jacob Tom won both the long jump and triple jump.
Blue Mountain’s Chase Guers (100) and North Schuylkill’s Luke Miller (200) blazed to victories in the sprints, while Blue Mountain’s William Shaner won the javelin and the Eagles’ tandem of Dalton Minnick and Noah Lechleitner went 1-2 in the pole vault.
North Schuylkill’s Genevieve Dando won two events on the girls’ side, racing to victories in the 1600 and 3200.
Also on the track, Blue Mountain’s Sophia Spolski (200), Schuylkill Haven’s Audrey Hutchinson (400) and Pottsville’s Riley Davis (100 hurdles) won individual events while the Blue Mountain 4×100 relay took gold.
In the field, Blue Mountain’s Aniera Perry took top honors in the shot put while Hannah Wildermuth won the pole vault.
A total of 21 teams competed in Thursday’s invitational, with Blue Mountain, Mahanoy Area, Marian, Nativity, North Schuylkill, Panther Valley, Pottsville, Schuylkill Haven, Shenandoah Valley and Weatherly representing the Schuylkill League.
No team scores were kept.
