Colts win final event to edge Tamaqua

TAMAQUA — The foursome of Andrew Metters, James Gomez, Reece Steibler and Michael Strucko raced to victory in the final event to lift Marian to a 59-56 victory over Tamaqua in a Schuylkill League boys’ swimming dual meet Thursday.

Andrew Metters (50 free, 100 free) and Strucko (200 free, 100 back) each won two events for Marian (4-8, 4-7 SL), while Steibler grabbed a couple of key second-place finishes in the 100 free and 100 back.

Aidan Elston (500 free) and Brandon Temarantz (100 breast) won events for Tamaqua (3-13, 3-9), which led 52-51 entering the final event.

Hurricanes sweep tri-meet with Mount Carmel, Jersey Shore

MOUNT CARMEL — Ethan Miller touched first in the 100 butterfly and 100 breaststroke and swam on two winning relays as the Hurricanes downed Mount Carmel and Jersey Shore in a non-league tri-meet.

Schuylkill Haven downed Mount Carmel 84-68 and Jersey Shore 106-9. Mount Carmel defeated Jersey Shore 90-7.

Elliot Wehr added a victory in the 100 freestyle for Schuylkill Haven (8-9).

TAMAQUA — Janna Brown (200 free, 100 free), Shaylee Gormley (200 IM, 100 fly) and Savannah Wilson (50 free, 100 breast) each won two individual events and swam on two winning relays as the Blue Raiders downed the Fillies in a Schuylkill League dual meet.

Lyla Clemson added a win in the 500 freestyle for Tamaqua (12-3-1, 10-2), which won 10 of 11 contested events. Lydia Strucko took first in the 100 backstroke for Marian (0-12, 0-11).

MOUNT CARMEL — Hope Stauffer won a pair of individual events as Schuylkill Haven defeated Mount Carmel and Jersey Shore in a non-league tri-meet.

Stauffer won the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle for the Hurricanes (8-9), which won a pair of relays. Allison Scherer captured the 100 backstroke.
