Lourdes boys win Class A consolation, qualify for state playoffs
SUNBURY — It’s a sweet 16 for the Lourdes girls’ basketball team.
The Red Raiders captured the 16th District 4 Class A championship in program history Thursday night with a 59-45 victory over Benton at Shikellamy High School.
Hannah Lokitis and Sophia Karlovich each notched double-doubles and the Red Raiders placed four players in double figures en route to their 25th victory of the season.
Lokitis finished with 18 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists, while Karlovich had 14 points and 11 rebounds. The inside duo combined for 16 points in the first quarter as Lourdes raced out to a 20-10 lead, then each added six more in the second quarter as the Red Raiders extended the margin to 35-23 at halftime.
Onaleigh Barnes added 13 points and Kylla Sandri tallied 12 for Lourdes (25-2), which claimed its second straight District 4 crown.
The Red Raiders will open PIAA Tournament play Saturday, March 7, at home against the sixth-place team from District 3, Conestoga Christian (16-8). Benton will host the third-place team from District 3, Veritas Academy (21-2).

District 4 Boys’ Basketball
Lourdes 58, Meadowbrook Christian 42
SUNBURY — Gaven Renn drained five 3-pointers and scored a game-high 24 points as the Red Raiders downed Meadowbrook Christian in the District 4 Class A boys’ consolation game at Shikellamy High School.
Brighton Scicchitano added 13 points for Lourdes, which built a 26-12 lead after one quarter, then outscored Meadowbrook Christian 25-14 in the second half.
The victory qualifies Lourdes (12-13) for the PIAA Tournament. The Red Raiders will face the District 2/11 Class A winner, either Bethlehem Christian or Weatherly, in the opening round of the state playoffs Friday, March 6.
