HS Track and Field: Spartans’ Miller captures indoor state title

STATE COLLEGE — North Schuylkill senior Luke Miller continues to prove himself against the best sprinters in Pennsylvania.
In a photo finish, Miller nipped Malvern Prep’s Jalen Bowman to win the boys’ 60-meter dash at the PTFCA Indoor State Championships on Sunday at the Multisport Indoor Facility at Penn State University.
Miller and Bowman both covered the 60 meters in 6.76 seconds. Miller’s time puts him No. 15 nationally and ranks as the fastest time in Pennsylvania.
In the 200, the St. Joseph’s University-bound Miller placed third in 21.76 seconds. Episcopal Academy’s Abaas Hunter won the 200 in 21.39 seconds.
On the girls’ side, Alexa Giuffre placed eighth in the long jump at 18 feet, 0.75 inches. Kennett’s Aydriane Bowden won the event with a leap of 20 feet, 1.5 inches.
