Hurricanes capture regional title at Penn State Schuylkill

For the second time in four years, the Schuylkill Haven Unified Bocce team will compete in the state tournament.

The Hurricanes captured the 2026 regional championship during a competition Wednesday at Penn State Schuylkill. They will be one of eight teams from Pennsylvania competing Thursday, March 19, at the Giant Center in Hershey.

The Unified Bocce sport is co-sanctioned by the PIAA and the Special Olympics of Pennsylvania.

Schuylkill Haven went 12-1 in the regular season, then defeated Pottsville 5-4 and Minersville 7-6 to win its third Schuylkill League title in four years. At regionals, the Hurricanes downed Mountain View 5-3, Wallenpaupack 8-3 and East Stroudsburg 11-4 to claim the championship.

The Schuylkill Haven bocce program is in its fourth season. So far, the Hurricanes have captured three Schuylkill League titles, were league runner-up once, claimed the regional crown twice and qualified for states twice.
