SCHUYLKILL HAVEN — A Tornado proved stronger than a Hurricane on Thursday.

Mount Carmel broke things open with a six-run fourth inning and cruised past Schuylkill Haven 11-3 in a non-league baseball contest, spoiling the Hurricanes’ season opener at Scott Buffington Field.

The Red Tornadoes finished with 11 hits, led by Walker McGinley, Jason Klokis and Jaylen Delaney with two apiece. Klokis doubled twice and Keegan Brown added a double.

Schuylkill Haven was limited to four hits, with Alan Evans collecting two. Michael Terefencko and Bode Hinnershitz added one hit each.

Riverside 6, Pine Grove 5

PINE GROVE — Riverside built an early lead and held off a late push to edge Pine Grove in a non-league game.

The Vikings plated four runs in the first inning and added to the lead in the fourth and fifth before the Cardinals rallied with four runs over the middle innings to make it close.

Nicholas Bohenek led Riverside with three hits, including a home run, while Chris Graff and Jason Posluszny added two hits each.

Pine Grove finished with five hits, getting one each from Ian Brown, Wyatt Snyder, Jake Hatter, Quincy Allen and Kaiden Umbenhauer.
