HS Softball: Williams Valley outslugs Marian

HOMETOWN — Williams Valley knows how to put runs on the board.
For decades, the Vikings have been renowned for hanging crooked numbers and double-digit totals on opponents.
The 2026 Vikes carried on that tradition Tuesday. Mixing power and speed, Williams Valley slugged its way past Marian 18-6 in the Schuylkill League Division II opener for both teams.
The clubs combined for 24 runs, 26 hits and 10 errors in a 2-hour, 11-minute battle that lasted all seven innings.
“I thought we did very well,” Williams Valley coach Ryan Underkoffler said. “We had some miscues there, of course, but we’ve got to knock the rust off early in the season. We’ve got some young girls in there; we’ve got some big bats in there. It looks like we took over from where we left off last year.”
Liv Hand brought the thunder for Williams Valley (1-0, 1-0 D-II) by clubbing a pair of two-run home runs. Hand finished 2-for-4 with four runs scored and five RBIs. She homered on the first pitch she saw this season, a two-run drive to left-center for a quick 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
Marian answered with two runs in the bottom of the first as Malina Letcher rapped an RBI single and Chloe Cannon plated a run with a groundout.
Undeterred, Williams Valley batted around plus two in the second inning, scoring seven runs for a 9-2 advantage. Delaney Bixler and Cierra Brill each had a two-run single in the inning. Bixler finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored; Brill went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and three runs scored.
The Fillies (1-1, 0-1) got two runs back when Hailey Treskolasky laced a two-run double down the left-field line in the bottom of the second inning.
That cut Williams Valley’s lead to 9-4, but that’s as close as Marian got.
Hand went deep again in the third, a towering, two-run blast to straightaway center field.
Williams Valley received contributions up and down the lineup. Ella Kobularik went 3-for-5 with four runs scored; Quin Smeltz went 2-for-4 with three RBIs; and Megan Perhach went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Kamri Koppenhaver singled a drove in two runs for the Vikings, who added five runs in the seventh inning.
To its credit, Marian pushed the game a full seven innings. Lesher went 2-for-3 with two RBIs; Gracie Sendatch went 2-for-4; and Treskolasky finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored.
