Eagles headline the day, Spartans nip Toppers; Cardinals, Panthers add wins as several league teams fall in jam-packed non-league weekend

ORWIGSBURG — It took a little bit of everything, and just enough at the right time.

Blue Mountain split a tie ballgame open in the fifth inning and made it stand, edging Whitehall 2-1 in a tightly played non-league contest Saturday at Allen Greenawalt Field.

Blue Mountain regained the lead in the fifth on a squeeze-bunt, fielder’s choice by Cohen Kirby, and the pitching took over from there.

Frankie Russo worked the first four innings before Ryan Clemas shut the door with three scoreless frames to earn the win.

Sonny Amato led Blue Mountain with two hits, while Tyler Sanders and Callen Nicklas each had two hits for Whitehall.
