HS Girls’ Volleyball: Spartans’ Carado reaches milestone

North Schuylkill volleyball player Kyla Carado reached the 500-kill milestone for her career during a recent match. Prior to Saturday's match against Central Columbia, the North Schuylkill School District and the volleyball program celebrated Carado's achievement. North Schuylkill 3, Central Columbia 0
FOUNTAIN SPRINGS — Kyla Carado had 13 kills, four aces and three blocks to lead North Schuylkill past Central Columbia 25-13, 25-13, 25-21 on Saturday in a non-league girls’ volleyball match at Cesari-Hope Gymnasium.
Prior to the match, Carado was honored for reaching 500 kills for her career.
Brigid Flynn compiled 10 digs, four aces and three kills, while Carrah Hill added seven digs and two aces for the Spartans (9-9).
For the Blue Jays, Leah Fenstemaker had eight assists; Caroline Cornstock made 14 digs; and Lily Huber added five blocks.
North Schuylkill won JV 2-0.

Tide win own tournament
POTTSVILLE — Pottsville geared up for the Schuylkill League playoffs by capturing the championship at the Pottsville Classic Varsity Volleyball Tournament at Martz Hall.
In pool play, Pottsville won Pool A with a 7-2 record, followed by Marian at 6-3, Lake Lehman at 4-5 and Lehighton at 1-8. In Pool B, West Branch won at 9-0, with Panther Valley at 6-3, Holy Redeemer at 2-7 and Mahanoy Area at 1-8.
In the semifinals, Marian knocked off West Branch 25-20, 25-21, and Pottsville eliminated Panther Valley 25-23, 25-21.
The Crimson Tide took the gold by stopping Marian 25-18, 25-22 in the final.
CROSS COUNTRY
Weatherly sweeps junior high titles
ORWIGSBURG — Schuylkill Haven’s Connor Evans (9:19) and Weatherly’s Mikayla Pugh (10:02) won individual championships at the Schuylkill League Junior High Cross Country Championships at Blue Mountain High School.
Weatherly took the team titles in both the boys’ and girls’ divisions.
