District 11 Girls’ Volleyball: 3 local teams fall in Class 3A quarterfinals

LANSFORD — Morgan Orsulak posted 22 kills and 12 assists for second-seeded Panther Valley, but No. 7 Northwestern Lehigh used a fast start to defeat the Panthers 25-12, 25-20, 22-25, 25-18 on Wednesday in a District 11 Class 3A girls’ volleyball quarterfinal.

JaeLynn Browdy added 23 assists, 15 service points, eight kills and three aces for Panther Valley (18-3). Other top players for the Panthers included Caroline Breslin with 18 digs, eight service points and one ace; and Kathryn Breslin with 13 digs, three service points and two kills.

The Tigers (17-7) move on to Monday’s semifinals at 5:30 p.m. at Catasauqua High School. Northwestern Lehigh will take on third-seeded Bethlehem Catholic (21-1), a 3-0 winner over No. 6 Pottsville in another quarterfinal.

Bethlehem Catholic 3, Pottsville 0

BETHLEHEM — Ava Schwartz had six kills, five digs and four blocks for sixth-seeded Pottsville, but No. 3 Bethlehem Catholic posted a 25-15, 25-15, 25-10 win in a District 11 Class 3A quarterfinal.

Also for the Crimson Tide (15-6), Maggie Brennan notched four kills, three digs and two blocks, and Megan Yost compiled 11 assists, six digs, two kills and one block.

Bethlehem Catholic (21-1) advances to Monday’s semifinals, set for 5:30 p.m. at Catasauqua High School. The Golden Hawks will take on No. 7 Northwestern Lehigh (17-7), a 3-1 winner over No. 2 Panther Valley.

Allentown C.C. 3, Blue Mountain 0

ALLENTOWN — Jaedyn Bartholomew had 10 kills, 10 digs, three aces and three blocks for fifth-seeded Blue Mountain, but No. 4 Allentown Central Catholic prevailed 25-20, 25-19, 25-21 in a District 11 Class 3A quarterfinal.

Bella Grasso added 25 assists and 10 digs; Zoe Leibensperger chipped in eight kills and three digs; and Alexa Marshall tallied 12 digs, five kills and three aces for the Eagles (16-5).

Allentown Central Catholic (14-4) advances to the semifinals against No. 1 Southern Lehigh (19-0), which swept Notre Dame-Green Pond 3-0 in another quarterfinal. The semifinal will be played at 7 p.m. Monday at Catasauqua High School.
