PIAA Soccer/Volleyball: 4 teams continue quest for state championships
MECHANICSBURG — The PIAA released sites and times for Saturday’s quarterfinals in soccer and volleyball Wednesday, and local entrants Tri-Valley and Pine Grove will share the volleyball court as part of a tripleheader.
District 11 champion Pine Grove (13-10) will open the day by taking on District 3 champion Delone Catholic (19-4) in a Class AA quarterfinal at 1:30 p.m. at Exeter Township High School, Reiffton.
At 3 p.m., District 3 runner-up Hempfield (18-1) will meet District 1 fourth-place Bishop Shanahan (18-5) in a Class 4A quarterfinal. Following that, at 5 p.m. at Exeter, District 11 champion Tri-Valley (22-1) will square off against District 1 champion Faith Christian (18-6) in a Class A quarterfinal.
In boys’ soccer, District 11 champion Blue Mountain (20-3) will take on District 2 champion Abington Heights (21-1) in a Class 3A quarterfinal at 4 p.m. at Lehighton Multi-Purpose Stadium. The Eagles will play in the second game of a doubleheader. In the opener at Lehighton, District 1 champion Radnor (18-4) will face District 2 champion Abington Heights (19-2-1) at 2 p.m. in a Class 3A girls’ soccer quarterfinal.
Elsewhere in girls’ soccer, District 11 champion Schuylkill Haven (17-5-1) will meet District 4 champion Muncy (19-2-1) in a Class A quarterfinal at 2 p.m. at Central Columbia High School.
In volleyball, Martz Hall will host a doubleheader Saturday. District 3 third-place Garden Spot (17-6) will play District 2 champion Berwick (19-1) at 1 p.m. in a Class 3A quarterfinal. District 12 champion Lansdale Catholic (16-6) will face District 2 champion Holy Redeemer (21-3) at 3 p.m. in a Class AA quarterfinal.
In soccer, North Schuylkill’s Ghosh Orthodontics Field at Spartan Stadium will be the site of four quarterfinal games Saturday.
In Class A boys, District 4 champion Southern Columbia (15-5-1) will play District 2 champion Wyoming Seminary (16-5) at noon. In Class A girls, District 4 runner-up Southern Columbia (14-7-1) will take on District 1 champion Faith Christian (15-4-1) at 2 p.m. In Class AA boys, District 11 champion Northwestern Lehigh (24-1) will play District 1 champion Faith Christian (19-1-1) at 4 p.m. And in Class AA girls, District 4 champion Central Columbia (19-3) will square off against District 11 champion Northwestern Lehigh (25-0) at 6 p.m.
The winners will advance to Tuesday’s state semifinals.
