Miller spearheads Williams Valley’s run to crown
ELIZABETHVILLE — For the second straight night, the Williams Valley girls’ basketball team took a period to find its groove.
After that, however, the Vikings were on a roll.
Mallory Miller scored 14 of her game-high 18 points in the middle quarters as Williams Valley downed Mount Carmel 40-22 on Saturday night to capture the championship of the UDA Tip-Off Tournament at Upper Dauphin.
The Vikings trailed after one quarter Friday before blowing past Northumberland Christian in the tournament semifinals. Saturday, the Vikes forged a 9-8 lead after the first period before outgunning the Red Tornadoes 31-14 the rest of the way.
Miller spearheaded Williams Valley’s attack, scoring seven points in the Vikings’ 13-4, second-quarter run, then adding seven more in an 11-2 spurt in the third quarter.
Ireland Kasper added nine points for Williams Valley, which improved to 3-0 overall.

Leah Black collected 10 points and nine rebounds for Tamaqua, which used a 24-5, second-quarter run to pull away. Millie Black added 10 rebounds.
