HEGINS — Seven matches. In six days. And three weigh-ins.

Tri-Valley’s had a busy week, to say the least.

The Bulldogs capped a successful run Wednesday night, routing Mahanoy Area 49-17 in a Schuylkill League Division II dual meet in the Tri-Valley gym.

The stretch began last Friday when Tri-Valley (7-0, 1-0 D-II) swept five dual meets at Blue Mountain’s Gauntlet Wrestling Tournament. Tuesday night, the Dawgs rallied past mat rival North Schuylkill 36-30. Then they came back 24 hours later and took 10-of-13 matches against the Golden Bears (4-3, 0-1).

“They came through pretty well,” Tri-Valley coach Dave Boltz said. “We just practiced Monday to get ready. The Gauntlet is a lot of wrestling. We were run down after that, so we took the weekend off. They performed very well. I think they needed that break.”

So, in less than a week, Tri-Valley earned seven dual-meet wins, including triumphs over Blue Mountain, North Schuylkill and Mahanoy Area.

“I thought we could do it, but we weren’t sure,” Boltz said. “We had to show up and wrestle. Our guys kept pushing the pace and didn’t give up.”

Owen Wolfgang (107) set the tone for the Dawgs against Mahanoy Area with a 19-second pin in the first match. Landon Horoschak (145), Liam Yourey (152) and Hunter Updegrave (172) added falls for Tri-Valley. Jayce Hatter (114) posted a 22-4 technical fall in 3:17 over Nolan Timko.

In a featured bout at 189, Tri-Valley’s Max Masser decisioned Stanley Boris 4-1 in sudden victory. Masser had numerous chances for a takedown during regulation, but the powerful Boris fended him off. The Dawgs’ standout finished a low, single-leg shot just 15 seconds into extra time.

In another featured bout at 160, Mahanoy Area’s Rory Dixon rolled up a 16-1 technical fall in 2:46 over Parker Hatter. Dixon (11-0) has 10 technical falls and one major decision in his 11 bouts this season.

The Bears’ Kyler Quick (11-0) also stayed undefeated with a 19-second pin over Kyle Bowman at 215 pounds. Quick has nine pins in his 11 wins.

Mahanoy Area freshman Arturo Reyes (127) improved to 10-1 with a 38-second fall over Dalton Leitzel. Reyes has five pins and three technical falls among his 10 victories.

After its busy stretch, Tri-Valley will have 11 days off over Christmas before returning to action Dec. 29-30 at the Governor Mifflin Invitational. Mahanoy Area will compete in the Jim Thorpe Holiday Tournament on Dec. 29-30.

“We’re going to work on a little more technique,” Boltz said. “We have a couple little things to to work on. We’ll take some time for the holiday and work on some things we didn’t go over yet, some things that we saw over the last 5-6 days.”
