Williams, Banks, Hoffman-Long win titles

ELIZABETHTOWN — Two Panther Valley grapplers and one from Tri-Valley climbed to the top of the podium Saturday at the BAGUBA Brawl girls’ wrestling tournament at Elizabethtown High School.

In a field of 23 teams, Panther Valley’s Alisa Williams (170) and Brenda Banks (235) and Tri-Valley’s Maggie Hoffman-Long (142) won individual championships. Hoffman-Long competes for Upper Dauphin as part of a co-op agreement.

Upper Dauphin finished second in the team standings with 152 points. Central Dauphin ran away with the team title, scoring 212 points. Boiling Springs (118.5), South Western (114) and Spring Grove (111) rounded out the top five. Panther Valley had three finalists and finished eighth with 88 points.

Maggie Hoffman-Long, Tri-Valley wrestler (in co-op with Upper Dauphin)

After a bye, Hoffman-Long notched a pair of pins — in 49 and 48 seconds, respectively — to cruise into the finals. She took her gold without wrestling because Spring Grove’s Lily Yohe bowed out due to a medical forfeit. Hoffman-Long improved her record to 4-0.

Meanwhile, the Panthers’ Williams and Banks wrestled four times apiece and pinned all eight of their opponents.

Williams had falls of 25 seconds, 25 seconds and 3:30 to reach the finals. There, she stopped Central Dauphin’s Madison Rive in 4:17. Williams upped her season record to 10-1.

Brenda Banks, Panther Valley

Likewise, three-time state champion Banks had a dominant, four-pin run to the championship. Banks’ first three falls came in 36, 56 and 39 seconds. In the finals, Banks decked Juniata’s Katelynn Krepps in 25 seconds to raise her season record to 10-0.

Anelia Bennick (155) finished second, and Ashley Williams (155) took sixth for the Panthers.

In addition to the Hoffman-Long, Upper Dauphin had three other finalists. Jada Dillard (130), Jacelyn Henninger (148) and Chloe Ratcliffe (190) finished second.

Audrina Hoover (100) and Lydia Engle (190) placed fourth; and Kaia Snyder (136) finished sixth for the Trojans.

BAGUBA is a wrestling acronym that stands for Brutally Aggressive Grappler Uninhibited By Adversity.
