Tyeirre Meade, Blue Mountain boys' basketball

TAMAQUA — Tyeirre Meade scored a game-high 18 points as Blue Mountain used a big first half to down Tamaqua 60-30 in a Schuylkill League Division I boys’ basketball game Friday night.

Meade had 10 of his points in the first half as the Eagles led 23-10 after one frame and 36-12 at intermission. Cohen Kirby added 11 points and Cohen Werner tallied 10 for Blue Mountain (5-5, 3-2 D-I).

Terrence McDowell drained four 3-pointers and had 16 points to pace Tamaqua (1-9, 1-4).

MYERSTOWN — The Crimson Tide were held to five points in the fourth quarter in dropping a non-league defensive struggle to the Raiders.

Christian Alvarez scored a game-high 17 points and Ryder Bowers had 12 for Pottsville, which had its five-game winning streak snapped.

The game was close throughout, with ELCO leading 37-36 entering the fourth. The Raiders won the game at the foul line, hitting 7-of-10 in the fourth quarter and 13-of-16 for the game.

PALMERTON — Jude Maziekas scored 11 of his game-high 19 points in a key fourth-quarter outburst as the Spartans topped the Blue Bombers in a non-league game.

The Spartans led 33-30 entering the fourth before closing the game on a 23-14 run. Caden Mengel, Cam Kacilowicz and Julian Nelson each added four points in the fourth frame as North Schuylkill overcame a 14-for-30 performance from the foul line to grab the win.

Nelson finished with 13 points and Kacilowicz tallied 10.

HOMETOWN — DeAnna Pugh and Addy Marek combined to score 14 points in a fourth-quarter rally as the Fillies stunned the Hurricanes in a non-league game at the Jack Malarkey Gymnasium.

Audrey Hutchinson had 13 points and Mckenna Runkle netted 11 for Schuylkill Haven, which led 21-17 at halftime and 31-26 entering the fourth.

Pugh converted three buckets, Katie Knock had a key 3-pointer and the Fillies went 8-for-8 from the foul line as part of a 21-8, game-closing run.

Marek finished with 19 points, connecting on 6-of-6 from the line in the fourth. Pugh scored eight of her 12 in the final frame.

TOWER CITY — Mallory Miller compiled four of Williams Valley’s 11 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 14 points as the Vikings won their sixth straight win a non-league victory over the Eagles.

Quin Smeltz added 13 points and Ireland Kasper drained a trio of 3-pointers for Williams Valley, which hit nine treys in the first half to build a 33-14 lead at intermission.

POTTSVILLE — The Crimson Tide held ELCO scoreless in the first quarter and to just two points in the first half to capture a non-league victory at Martz Hall.

Jo Barnhart and Lauren Brennan each tallied 12 points for Pottsville, which led 12-2 at halftime and put the game away with a 13-5 fourth.

Brennan connected on four 3-pointers through the first three frames before Barnhart went 6-for-6 at the line in the fourth period to ice it.

POTTSVILLE — Emmalee Pinkey scored a team-high 15 points as the Green Wave dropped a non-league game to the Trojans atop Lawton’s Hill.

Emily Lorence had six points and Pinkey five in the first quarter as Nativity battled Tulpehocken to a 15-15 tie through eight minutes. The Trojans, however, went on a 29-13 run through the middle quarters to take control.
