HS Boys’ Wrestling: Spartans capture Indian Takedown Duals

tempimage6pxk57

Stanley Padakowski, North Schuylkill

LEHIGHTON — Stanley Padakowski (121) and Alex Deritis (127) earned technical falls in the final two bouts, but North Schuylkill’s comeback seemingly fell one point short of Lehighton on Saturday in the championship match of the Indian Takedown Duals.

Then the Indians crossed the line during an excessive post-match celebration. The officials took one team point away from Lehighton, tying the dual. The first tiebreaker criterion is greater number of team points deducted for unsportsmanlike conduct or flagrant misconduct. Since Lehighton got penalized for the celebration, North Schuylkill received a team point to win 32-31.

Gaige Mentusky (107) notched a fall, while Brock Holmes (139), Bode Gates (145) and Cadyn McGraw (215) added major decisions. Kaden Tavares bumped up a weight to 160 and decisioned Konner Nalesnik 4-2.

North Schuylkill (12-2) also had wins over Jim Thorpe (71-0), Manheim Central (45-26), Pleasant Valley (57-14) and Governor Mifflin (44-26).

Deritis, Tavares and McGraw had 5-0 days to lead the Spartans. Mentusky, Padakowski, Noah Leib (133), Holmes and Gates went 4-1.

“They realize they belong,” North Schuylkill coach Corey Fetterolf said. “They’re believing in themselves. They’re wrestling to win, not wrestling not to lose. They’re letting it fly and giving themselves a real opportunity to win big matches.”

Panther Valley (0-8) also competed at Lehighton. The Panthers dropped all of their duals: 66-9 to Lehighton, 64-12 to Governor Mifflin, 51-18 to East Stroudsburg North, 48-24 to Pleasant Valley and 54-24 to Jim Thorpe. Landon Hunsicker (127) went 4-1 on the day for Panther Valley.
